You are your own wellness guru...
Think about how many people have told you what to eat, what to take, and what your body needs: influencers, diet books, health podcasts, well-meaning friends who've just discovered intermittent fasting. The wellness industry is enormous, it's loud, and it's built on one quiet assumption: that someone else knows your body better than you do.
They don't.
You are your own wellness guru.
Full stop.
And once you learn how to tap into the extraordinary intelligence your body already has? Everything changes.
So what's the tool?
It's called muscle testing - and it's been one of the most quietly life-changing things I've introduced to my own wellness practice and shared with many of the women I see for treatments.
Muscle testing (also called applied kinesiology) works on the principle that your body has an innate wisdom, and that it communicates through subtle physical responses. When something is genuinely good for you, your muscles respond with strength. When it isn't, they soften. It's your body's own yes/no system - and once you learn to use it, you'll wonder how you ever made a wellness decision without it.
It sounds a bit woo-woo, I know. Stay with me.
Where muscle testing makes the biggest difference
Supplements: There are so many supplements marketed at women our age. Magnesium, Lion's Mane, evening primrose, black cohosh, ashwagandha, quercetin, NAC… the list is genuinely endless, and it can feel overwhelming. But here's the thing - not every supplement is right for every body, and the dose on the label is a manufacturer's generalisation, not a prescription written for you.
Muscle testing lets you check both: is this something my body actually needs right now, and if so, how much? No more guessing, and no more wasted money on supplement bottles that sit untouched.
Food decisions: One week we're all supposed to be plant-based. The next, everyone's a carnivore. Gluten is the enemy, then it isn't, then it is again for some people but not others. It's exhausting, and honestly, most of it is noise.
Here's what I believe: the right diet is the one that's right for your body - not a template designed for a theoretical average person who probably doesn't exist. Next time you're at the supermarket and you're not sure about something, pick it up and muscle test. Ask your body: does this serve me? Yes or no. It really is that simple.
How to learn muscle testing
Let me point you to Tim Goyetche, an alternative health practitioner based in Canada. (He's well worth following on Facebook, BTW).
Here's his video demonstrating how you can muscle test yourself:
You'll be surprised by how quickly it starts to feel natural.
Prefer a more scientific way of testing yourself?
I'd really encourage you to try muscle testing yourself. But if it's not for you, Tim Goyetche has another approach, using a cheap SpO2 oximeter. I haven't done this myself (because I find the muscle testing simpler and easier), but it's worth checking out:
Trust yourself - your body's got you
We live in a world drowning in wellness advice, and so much of it pulls in different directions. It can leave you feeling like you need an expert for every single decision.
But you have an extraordinary amount of wisdom already living inside you. Your body has been communicating with you your whole life. Muscle testing is simply a way of learning to hear it more clearly.
Want some proof that muscle testing works?
Check out this client of Tim Goyetche's - she didn't make any lifestyle changes other than muscle testing all of her food:
Muscle testing can absolutely change your life.
Once you start listening, things get a lot simpler. And a lot less expensive.
You don't need a guru. You are the guru.
With love,
Cornelia x
