Ear reflexology: Auricular therapy with ear seeding in Kerikeri, Northland

“I just want to feel like myself again.”

It’s a phrase I hear often from women navigating perimenopause or feeling overwhelmed by modern life.

Stress, hormonal changes, and emotional overload can leave you feeling like you’re holding it together on the outside but quietly struggling inside.

Ear reflexology and ear seeding offers a gentle, proven way to support balance, calm, and wellbeing - right through one of the most direct channels in your body: the ears.

Please note that ear reflexology in Kerikeri with Cornelia is for ladies only.

Reiki Kerikeri: Calm, Restorative Sessions For Women

Hi, I'm Cornelia Luethi - and I'm so glad you're here

I meet many women who feel stretched thin, overwhelmed by stress, or unsettled by the changes of perimenopause. Ear reflexology offers a gentle way to support your system when life feels out of balance. I personally use ear seeds to help with adrenal fatigue, perimenopause symptoms, and appetite control.

I am a certified Ear Reflexology therapist, trained by Karen Middleton at the Auckland School of Reflexology. I work with auricular therapy and ear seeding to stimulate precise points on the ear that correspond to different parts of the body.

Alongside this, I am also a Level 3a Usui Reiki Master Practitioner. I continue to deepen my knowledge of holistic wellness so I can provide safe, thoughtful, and nurturing care. Read more about me.

Here in central Kerikeri, I’ve created a calm, private space where you can pause, breathe, and receive support.

If you're looking for a gentle, non-invasive therapy to help you through life’s busy or challenging times, ear reflexology could be the support you need.

What is ear reflexology?

You may not have come across ear reflexology (also known as auricular therapy) before - but its roots run deep.

This technique has been around for thousands of years, appearing in both Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) and early Western medical practices. In fact, records show that as early as 500 BC, physicians like Hippocrates stimulated the ears to influence wellbeing.

Since then, ear reflexology has been refined and developed into what we now recognise as auricular therapy - a well-established, evidence-based modality used worldwide. Here's a summary of medical studies on ear reflexology.

Ear reflexology is a complementary therapy, not a replacement for medical care.

Why the ears?

Unlike foot or hand reflexology, the ears offer a shorter and more direct route to the brain and nervous system.

The ear contains a microsystem reflecting the entire body. By gently stimulating these reflex points, we encourage the body's natural self-regulation - inviting calm and balance without invasive treatments or medications.

And, if you’re someone who prefers to avoid foot treatments - or the needles in acupuncture - you’ll be pleased to know this approach involves only the ears, and there aren't any needles involved.

Ear reflexology for perimenopause

Women often turn to ear reflexology to soothe perimenopausal symptoms such as:

  • Mood fluctuations
  • Hot flashes
  • Night sweats
  • Sleep disturbances
  • Fatigue
  • Brain fog
  • Weight gain
  • Loss of libido.

Ongoing support through ear seeding

Unlike other forms of reflexology where the benefit fades after the session, ear reflexology allows for ongoing acupressure through the application of ear seeds.

These small, discreet seeds (traditionally from the Vaccaria plant) are placed on precise points on the ear and secured with hypoallergenic, latex-free medical tape.

They remain in place for around 7-10 days, continuing to apply gentle, therapeutic pressure long after your appointment.

This means you carry the treatment with you - quietly supporting your system throughout the week.

What happens during an ear reflexology session?

Each ear reflexology appointment is a calm and nurturing experience and lasts approximately one hour. It takes place in my cosy treatment room in central Kerikeri, Northland.

Here's what to expect:

  • Consultation: We'll talk through your goals for the session, and I'll map out the likely ear acupressure points to target later in the appointment.
  • Remove piercings: You will be asked to remove any ear piercings and earrings that are removable.
  • Visual check: I'll do a quick visual check of your ears. Any bumps, dry patches, etc. may potentially indicate an issue with the body part it relates to.
  • Ear massage: Enjoy a soothing ear massage, designed to activate every reflex point on the ear. This takes around 15 minutes and is deeply relaxing, helping to ease tension and quiet the nervous system.
  • Assessment: Together, we’ll gently explore which points may benefit from stimulation, tailored to your unique needs. I use a blunt metal probe for this: I gently press on certain points - the ones that are more tender indicate points where there's an imbalance. This is an interactive process.
  • Ear seeding: Specific points are selected and ear seeds are applied. These will stay on for 7-10 days, providing ongoing acupressure and gentle support.

What about follow-up appointments for auricular therapy in Kerikeri?

Depending on your issue, you may wish to have follow-up ear reflexology appointments to replenish your ear seeds. You have two options:

1-hour ear reflexology session:

Enjoy an ear massage and all the other benefits of a full session with me:

20-minute ear-seed-only appointment:

A budget-friendly way to look after your wellbeing. Please only use this link if you would like your ear seeds replaced 'same again'. (If you would like treatment for a different/new issue, please book a 1-hour ear reflexology appointment, above.)

Combine Reiki + Ear Reflexology

Combining ear reflexology with Reiki offers a deeply calming and restorative experience.

Beginning with ear reflexology - including gentle ear massage and ear seeds - stimulates points linked to the vagus nerve, helping the body shift into a relaxed, parasympathetic state. This prepares your nervous system to receive the full benefits of Reiki.

As the reflexology eases tension and promotes energetic flow, the Reiki session that follows works more deeply, supporting emotional balance, and stress relief.

FAQs about ear seeds and auricular therapy

Ear reflexology testimonial for Cornelia

“I came to see Cornelia because I was really struggling with menopause symptoms. My nights were broken with hot flushes, night sweats, and this unusual problem of hot feet keeping me awake - which was strange, as in the past it had always been cold feet at night. I also had a hot décolletage, brain fog, and general aches and pains that left me feeling unlike myself.

I was not keen to try pharmaceutical treatments, as I prefer a more natural approach. To be honest, I was not sure whether ear reflexology would really help either, as it was something completely new to me. But after my first session I noticed a marked change. I have not had hot sweats since - the only time they came back was when I had taken the ear seeds out. My aches, pains, and brain fog have also eased, which feels like such a relief.

The treatment itself was surprisingly enjoyable. The ear massage was deeply relaxing - I almost fell asleep and left the session feeling calm and clear.

I would absolutely recommend ear reflexology with Cornelia to anyone. She is always so friendly and makes me feel at ease. I love seeing her doggies too!”
